ProFound matches suppliers from Indonesia, Tunisia, South Africa and Peru to buyers at SIAL

7,020 companies from more than 109 countries  presented their products to food manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and foodservice professionals at SIAL in Paris this week. All manner of food products, from ingredients to final private label and branded products, were show, across 21 exhibition sectors. ProFound supported SIPPO (Swiss Import Promotion Programme) with matchmaking for Indonesian, Tunisian and Peruvian companies. The Indonesian pavilion alone made more than 500 business contacts. At the fair, our expert Gustavo Ferro worked specifically with Tunisian harissa producers – engaging with European retailers and final product wholesalers to promote the product and suppliers. ProFound senior consultant Robbie Hogervorst joined the Helvetas buyer mission to South East Asia to identify business opportunities and look at actions needed to make business happen. Traditional Medicinals met with companies from Vietnam, Laos, whereas Organic Herb Trading Company visited all three countries, including Myanmar. The main focus of the mission was indigenous spices and organically produced local varieties of commodity spices, such as turmeric and ginger. Paving Colombia’s way to the international cocoa market

ProFound’s senior consultant Gustavo Ferro spent the last few weeks in Colombia, where he has worked in different activities of Swisscontact’s Colombia + Competitiva (C+C) programme. Gustavo is part of Swisscontact’s Swiss Expert Network (SEN), and has been advising on C+C’s specialty cocoa projects. The specialty cocoa sector in Colombia has an enormous potential to thrive. The country has a pallet of around 9 cocoa-producing regions with diverse agro-climatic and social characteristics. Colombia’s cocoa bean production reached new records in 2017, at over 60 thousand tonnes. At the moment, only around 20% of Colombia’s cocoa bean production is currently exported. [...]

We analysed both the supply side in Palestine and the European market to identify bottlenecks, opportunities and possible interventions to develop the Palestinian MAPs sector. Sustainable and equitable Jatamansi trade from Nepal

Together with our partners TRAFFIC International and ANSAB (Asia Network for Sustainable and Bioresources), ProFound has been awarded funding by the Darwin Initiative through UK Government funding for the project “Succeeding with CITES: Sustainable and equitable Jatamansi trade from Nepal”.  Jatamansi (Nardostachys grandiflora) only grows naturally in the Himalayan range, mainly in Nepal, India and China. The root of this plant is used in traditional medicine and its essential oil is also used in cosmetics and aromatherapy. South African and Pakistani suppliers at Vitafoods: 46 potential orders

The results of the CBI pavilion at Vitafoods 2018 made it clear: Vitafoods continues to lead when it comes to ingredients for healthy foods, food supplements and herbal medicine. The fair held 7-9 May in Geneva received 1,100 exhibitors across different ingredient categories and 21,000 corporate visitors. The show is on the frontline of emerging industry trends: the convergence between food and pharma, new ingredients, new delivery systems and the emergence of personalised nutrition.
