Sustainable agriculture is often discussed at farm level. Better practices. Safer inputs. Healthier soils. More responsible production. But for sustainable agriculture to last, it also needs somewhere to go.
A product can be carefully grown, responsibly harvested or organically produced and still struggle to reach the right buyers. Not because the product lacks value, but because the systems around it are not yet strong enough: traceability, quality management, certification, compliance, logistics, finance and market access.
This is the space where Green Rhino works.
Based in Kenya and established in 2017, Green Rhino is ProFound’s sister company. Its work focuses on strengthening safe, organic and healthy food systems across Africa by building the practical conditions that allow responsible products to reach responsible markets.

The Missing Link Between Production and Opportunity
Across many agricultural value chains, there is a gap between what producers can offer and what markets require.
Farmers, producer groups and local enterprises may already be working with products that have strong potential. Yet buyers need more than a good story. They need quality, consistency, traceability, clear documentation, reliable supply and confidence that products meet the standards of their markets.
Green Rhino works in this gap.
Its role is not only to promote sustainable agriculture, but to make it more organised, more traceable and more commercially viable. That means working with the people and businesses behind the product, and strengthening the systems that connect them to opportunity.
Where Production Meets Opportunity
Green Rhino works with farmers, producer groups, local enterprises, institutions and partners to build stronger value chains from the ground up.
This includes supporting safer and more organic farming practices, strengthening certification and compliance, improving market readiness, and helping responsible products reach buyers who value quality, traceability and sustainability.
It also means supporting local enterprises to become stronger market actors: more professional, more reliable and better prepared to grow.
In practice, Green Rhino’s work can involve everything from technical training and producer organisation to certification support, buyer linkages, business development, access to finance and value chain coordination.
The approach is practical and market-oriented. It is about creating the conditions for sustainable agriculture to work not only environmentally and socially, but also commercially.
Local Leadership, Grounded Knowledge
Green Rhino is managed and operated by Stella Maina, working alongside Faith Wanjera. Their leadership brings strong local knowledge, technical experience and a clear understanding of the realities facing farmers, enterprises and agricultural value chains in Kenya and across the region.
This local presence matters.
Sustainable value chains cannot be built from a distance. They depend on understanding the landscapes, businesses, communities and market dynamics that shape how products are grown, processed, traded and valued.
Green Rhino brings that connection closer to the ground.

Part of ProFound's Wider Story
For ProFound, Green Rhino is an important part of a broader mission: connecting sustainable production with market opportunities that benefit farmers, businesses and the ecosystems they depend on.
While ProFound works internationally on market access, responsible sourcing, compliance and value chain development, Green Rhino strengthens this work locally in Kenya and across Africa.
Together, they create a bridge between production and market demand: supporting value chains that are not only more sustainable, but also more prepared for the realities of trade.
What Comes Next
One area where Green Rhino’s work is becoming especially relevant is in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands.
These landscapes are home to valuable dryland resources, including gums and resins such as frankincense, myrrh and gum arabic. These natural ingredients have strong potential in local and international markets, but their development depends on stronger organisation, sustainable harvesting, quality control and reliable commercial relationships.
Green Rhino is currently involved in work that explores how these resources can become part of more resilient livelihood and market opportunities in Northern Kenya.
More on this project will follow soon.
For now, Green Rhino’s role is clear: strengthening the systems that allow safe, organic and responsible products to move from production to opportunity — with more value staying closer to the people and places behind them.
