In-cosmetics is the world’s most important trade fair for cosmetic ingredients and the place to pick up on the latest trends in cosmetics. From 4-6 April, almost 9,000 visitors came to see the 780 exhibitors at the trade fair in London. ProFound consultant Robbie Hogervorst joined the CBI team with cosmetic ingredient expert Andrew Jones to support 19 companies. These are part of the CBI export coaching programmes in South Africa, Colombia, Peru and Indonesia. Trade Fair Support is one of ProFound’s activities in Market Access (See our Solutions page for more information).

“Renowned buyers placed orders with CBI exhibitors at in-cosmetics. R&D, marketing and sourcing managers showed a keen interest in our products. And these represented some of the most important cosmetic companies in the world!” – Robbie Hogervorst, ProFound consultant

Latest trends and opportunities in cosmetic ingredients

Visiting international trade fairs such as in-cosmetics helps us to find out the latest trends and product innovations and translate these into opportunities in our work. The focus on innovation is back on the cosmetic ingredient agenda, with companies willing to invest in new ingredients. This bodes well for suppliers outside of Europe that bring something new. In-cosmetics’ Innovation Zone was full of innovative active and functional ingredients, as well as finished products with unique properties.

At ProFound, we are happy to see that demand for natural ingredients in cosmetics keeps on going strong. The global natural cosmetics market is expected to grow by 10% annually until 2019, offering great opportunities for the companies we support. Natural ingredients, such as vegetable oils, also played a stronger role at in-cosmetics than in previous years. There were more companies than last year showcasing natural ingredients as replacements to synthetic products, such as natural alternatives to plastic beads in scrubs.

Ethical claims and sustainability are increasingly important for consumers, making it more and more important for brands to substantiate these claims. In-cosmetics reflected this trend, by adding a Sustainability Corner and handing out awards for companies that make a difference to the environment. Suppliers can use this trend to differentiate their products on the market. The in-cosmetics team recognised CBI exhibitor Kahai SAS from Colombia by awarding the company a silver Green Ingredient award for its sustainably sourced Cacay oil.

Next year, Amsterdam will host the in-cosmetics trade fair, from 17-19 April. We hope to see you there.
